Woman With Migraines More Predisposed To Be Depressed

Patient suffering from chronic headache, specifically migraine, are much more predisposed to suffer from depression, feel tired, and have a host of other hard physical symptoms, according to a medical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The clinical study involved 1040 women who buy cymbalta at headache clinics in six different countries. Of the women surveyed, 545 reported occasional headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 439 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the man were tested with migraines.

The medical study found patients with chronic headache were four times more predisposed than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Atypical Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also three times more likely to report a high degree of symptoms depended to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among women diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the medical research found the likelihood of major Psychotic Depression increased 32-fold if the women also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms will provoke or be a manifestation of major Manic Depression in woman with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt and Psychotic Depression may heighten pain perception,” said clinical investigation author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Major Depression suggests a prevalent neurobiology.”

Tietjen says medical study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Depression will be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Regardless of what’s causing the relation between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Depression complicates headache management and can stir up poorer consequence for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.

The clinical research was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which estimates 18 million American women suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 20,000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to ameliorating people care through instruction and clinical trial. A neurologist is a doctor with specialized training in monitoring, curing and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and frequent sclerosis.
